Bridging Cultures Through Calligraphy
During the activity, students learned how to hold the brush, control their strokes, and carefully write characters that carry auspicious meanings. The completed couplets were not only a reflection of their learning progress, but also became heartfelt gifts for their host families to display during the Lunar New Year. For host families, these handmade couplets are especially meaningful; for students, they represent a tangible way to turn cultural learning into personal expression.
While many households have the tradition of posting Spring Festival couplets, it is rare to see ones written by foreign students. Through this calligraphy experience, students not only learned Chinese characters, but also gained a deeper understanding of the values of blessing, sharing, and connection embedded in Chinese culture—allowing cultural exchange to flow naturally through each brushstroke.
